OOC ENTRY: Profile
Dominic Abbott
NAME: Dominic Osric Abbott
ALSO KNOWN AS: Dom
DATE OF BIRTH: January 14, 1955
BLOODLINE: Pureblood
FORMER HOUSE: Ravenclaw
AFFILIATION: Death Eater
MARITAL STATUS: Involved (formerly widower)
SIGNIFICANT OTHER: Hestia Jones
SEXUAL PREFERENCE: Heterosexual

Name
DOMINIC: From dominkus, meaning 'of the Lord'
OSRIC: Divine ruler

Outward
HEIGHT: 5'11”
WEIGHT: Average
HAIR COLOR: Dark brown/black
EYE COLOR: Brown
DISTINGUISHING MARKS: The dark mark on his left arm, and a deep scar over his chest when he went looking for those who had killed his wife
APPEARANCE: Of average height and weight, one would think that Dominic would tend to fade into a crowd, but that's far from the case. His dark hair and eyes give him a mysterious, dangerous look, one which made him quite popular with the girls in Hogwarts when he was in school.
HABITS: Is VERY organized, though when he's left to his own devices (when Hannah's gone) he tends to forget simple things such as shaving or making sure his robes aren't wrinkled. He chews on his quill when he's bored or brooding about the past.

Inward
PERSONALITY: Dominic is quite well organized, almost (but not quite) to the point of being a perfectionist. Though this has always been part of his professional life at the Ministry, it became part of his personal life after losing his wife, because he didn't want to make a mistake that lead to losing someone else again. He thinks carefully before speaking now even in casual conversations, analyzing everything to see how the listener might take his words and what sort of reaction it might lead to. The only one he is truly comfortable with now is Hannah, and even that is an area that he must be cautious with for fear of saying too much and revealing inadvertently how Teaghan was taken from them. He longs for the companionship he once had, he feels as if he lost not only his wife but also his best friend, confidant, lover...everything. The loneliness that he feels has led to him considering dating again, but he is unsure of how Hannah would feel, (and to be honest a little unsure of himself, as it's been approximately two decades since he “dated”) so he's yet to start seeing anyone.
STRENGTHS: Dominic is decisive, he's very much a leader, which led to his advancement in the ministry. He tends to be ruled by his heart more than his head, which is evidenced by the fact he gave up his beliefs in blood purity and even a relationship with his own brother for Teaghan, who many would have called a “mudblood.” He's quite organized, and projects an air of confidence.
WEAKNESSES: Tends to dwell on the past, is accustomed to following certain routines, often seems to contradict himself because his beliefs are often in conflict with the beliefs that his family tried to push on him.

His Story
CHILDHOOD HOME:
HISTORY: When Amelia and Osric Abbott welcomed their second son into the world, they felt on top of the world. They already had a perfect son, Lawrence, and now they had another. As the years passed it seemed that Dominic was going to follow in the path the parents had so carefully crafted for both of the boys. Though he didn't make Slytherin, he did make Ravenclaw, which both of the Abbots felt was a fine alternative.

It was at Hogwarts that he met Teaghan Fitzpatrick. Though he immediately recognized his attraction to her, he also recognized that her blood status made her an entirely inappropriate choice. He dated several pureblooded girls, and when school ended he went to work in the Ministry of Magic, and, under intense pressure from his father, joined Voldemort's Death Eaters. It was at the Ministry of Magic that he once again got into touch with Teaghan. Work seemed to throw them together far too often for his comfort, and soon he found that he was focusing more on her gentle smile than on her blood or lineage. Finally he got the courage to ask her out on a date, though he wondered for days afterward what he had been thinking. Teaghan was dangerous, not through any fault of her own, but because of the emotions that he knew her presence in his life would bring out in his family and his associates. However, she had such a winning way about her that Dominic couldn't resist her, and when his parents were died in 1977, he found the courage to propose to her. Not everyone, however, was so thrilled. Dominic's older brother, Lawrence, was appalled, and when he made his opinion quite clear by saying demeaning things about Teaghan, Dominic cut ties with him permanently.

The next few years were a happy blur. Soon Hannah was born and Dominic embraced the roles of husband and father wholeheartedly. He moved steadily higher in the ministry, fulfilled his duties to the Dark Lord with a sense of dread, and the days passed perfectly, seamlessly. He took a great deal of pride in making sure that his wife and child had everything that they wanted and needed. Though he had cut his ties with his family, he did make a good living in the ministry, and he had money stored in his own vaults.

Hannah's start at Hogwarts was bittersweet for Dominic. He was proud of her for being so grown up, so mature, and yet he was sad because he missed the days when she was still small and all of her problems could be solved with a sweet or soft word. He was even a little fearful that she'd outgrow her desire to be “daddy's little girl” and come home cursing and smarting off and thinking that he was some sort of ancient useless relic as some of the children of his friends had. More than that, he was saddened by the distance between them, not only the literal distance, but the fear that there would be an emotional distance between them. Despite her fears, Dominic wasn't disappointed that Hannah made Hufflepuff. His family would have been mortified, would have whispered that it was nearly as bad as Gryffindor, but he saw it as he saw everything else—a ruling that labeled Hannah as a well rounded, sweet natured, perfect child. When activities for the Death Eaters started picking up he and Teaghan both decided to tell Hannah that his work and its responsibilities was taking him from home more often. It nearly killed him to not be there for her and Teaghan when they needed him (especially when Cedric died) but there was little he could do, his fate had been determined when he joined Voldemort.

Barty Crouch Sr died in 1995, and that left Dominic free to move up to the head of the Department of International Magical Cooperation. He was thankful, because he felt that the added prestige would help keep suspicion of illegal activities from him.

When the Dark Lord decided to try to break into the Ministry of Magic, it was Dominic's job to ensure that they were not caught, and when the attempt failed and many of their number ended up in Azkaban, Dominic caught much of the blame, falling from the Dark Lord's good graces. However, it was his vocal objection to an invasion of Hogwarts that earned him the focused ire of Voldemort. He knew how easy it would be for the Death Eaters to “accidentally” kill Hannah, who was not a pureblood despite her father's long, proud line, and he refused to stand by and let anything happen to her.

One night when he was away on a small raid, a larger force attacked his own home. When he returned home and saw the Dark Mark blazing above his house, he knew...just knew instantly that he had lost something very dear. He was the one to find his wife's body, to call the aurors and healers (though he knew it was too late, he wouldn't believe it until he heard it from them.) They stayed with him, tried to comfort him, but there was no comforting a man who had lost what he had lost.

The next morning he went to get Hannah, to send her to live with her maternal grandparents. He was determined to avenge his wife's death, and he wanted Hannah somewhere safe and relatively unknown. It was only after Hannah was gone that he took action. Dominic went after those who he knew had not been at the smaller raid, those who he knew had to be involved in some way or another. He killed two people before he was caught by a nasty hex. It was made quite clear to him then that further action to attack Lord Voldemort's own forces would not be tolerated, and that Hannah would suffer the consequences of any more mistakes, not him. It was hard, painful for him to give up on seeking revenge for Teaghan, but for Hannah's sake, he did.

HISTORY DURING THE PAST YEAR:With Teaghan gone and Hannah away, Dominic became very wrapped up in his work. He often forgot to care for himself, little things such as shaving or making sure his clothing was unwrinkled or that he slept enough was often pushed to the wayside. He wanted Hannah back, and yet he was afraid to have her home again, fearful that he'd lose her as he lost her mother, so he asked her to graduate from her Muggle university before returning.

He didn't fight in the final battle. With Teaghan taken from him, he started doing even less than before, only the bare minimum to prevent direct action to harm Hannah and no more. There was fear there that each task could bring failure, and with that failure he could lose his daughter. He didn't fight in the final battle because he saw things deteriorating, and he was nearly certain that the Death Eaters would lose. And, he reasoned, if they won, his place would be less essential, more disposable to the Dark Lord, and that meant that Hannah would be likely killed. He had been lucky thus far, as his heightened status in the Ministry had diverted most of the attention from him when it came to Death Eater activities, but he knew that even that luck couldn't last forever. No, instead of fighting he withdrew a substantial amount of the sum he had in his vault and traveled to just outside of Hannah's university. If he heard that the war ended with Voldemort on top, he would take her somewhere far, far away.

Luckily, everything ended the way it should, and with Voldemort gone, Dominic has considered cutting his ties to the Death Eaters entirely. He's not been involved in any recent Death Eater activities, and is unsure if he ever will unless a new leader DEMANDS his presence. Now that Hannah's back, Dominic feels much happier, as he literally feels as though a piece of him is missing when she's gone, but he is also worried, because he knows that she doesn't know the truth about him, or about her mother's death.

Astrological
SIGN: Ravenclaw Capricorn
Capricorn is the tenth sign of the zodiac and governs the bones, joints, and knees. Positive traits include pragmatism, maturity, patience, determination, awareness, a strong work ethic, realism, discipline, money management, the willingness to overcome hard luck, leadership, initiative, opportunism, prudence, and cunning. Negative traits include pessimism, melancholy, emotional coldness, manipulation, obsession with work and ambitions to the detriment of personal development, remoteness, and materialistic snobbery.

Ravenclaws born under the sign of Capricorn excel at their studies, because they have both a love of knowledge for its own sake and a deep desire to use that knowledge to gain prestige or authority. They are disciplined students with acute perception and shrewd minds; they might take a little longer to reach conclusions than their peers, but their conclusions tend to be more well thought out and thorough. They have dry, ironic wit and are fond of making subtle jokes that only those blessed with intelligence and perception can understand. There's not much that these wizards miss; they usually know what is going on long before anybody else does.
